Ouch

Wow. I couldn't have been more wrong. The most troubling thing about both games this weekend is that they played out exactly like they do every year for the past decade. In some respects its nice to have some consistency.

While I was correct that Michigan was going to rely on Mike Hart to carry the team, I guess I overestimated Penn State's ability to stop the UM ground game. They flat out couldn't. I'm guessing Dan Conner's legs were tired from having to support the weight of Brad Nessler, Bob Griese, and Paul Maquire swinging from his nuts.

I couldn't be more upset if I were a Penn State fan right now. Joe Pa's ridiculous inability to adapt trumps even Lloyd Carr's. Having watched the first two games of the season (and every Ohio State game for the past four years) and contrasted it with the Notre Dame game from last Saturday, one would think that Paterno might have considered spreading the field out a little bit and stretched Michigan's slow linebackers and poor tackling secondary (except for Jamar Adams) out.

So Penn State comes out and runs the most vanilla offense this east of Ann Arbor and can't score a touchdown. Go figure. What makes it even more egregious is that the Nittany Lions have some decent offensive weapons (Derrick Williams) and an experienced QB that can get the ball to them. As a Wolverine fan I truly hope that Joe Pa continues to coach until he's 90 years old. This will guarantee at least one win for the maize and blue every year.

The Lions game was just a fucking mess. The secondary was exposed as the worst in the NFL by far. I have to imagine that Marty Morninweig could not have been happier about this outcome. I can't come to any conclusion other than the defense was flat out not ready to play. How does an NFL defense allow a score on five straight possessions? Unbelievable. Or, actually, quite believable considering its the Lions.

I have to apologize for my previous posting declaring that I'm signed up for the entire season following wins over two of the worst teams in the NFL. I'm still going to tune in next week, but my optimism that was so hardy in my previous post was clearly shit on by this week's performance. All the signs that this was going to be just another disappointing Lions team were there...I just chose to ignore them.

Its kinda like having a girlfriend you know is cheating on you, but you ignore the evidence of it because she's hot (or at least dumb enough look at your junk every once in awhile). All the signs that the Lions were going to give us one of these stinkers was there, but I didn't care. Now I'm left with my heart broken, beating off in the shower. I think I'm getting the metaphors confused. Whatever...the Lions are going to be junky. Maybe junky enough to be competitive in a terrible NFC North, but probably not (the Packers are a bigger fraud at 3-0 than the Lions were at 2-0 in my opinion, they are due for some sort of market correction).
