The Lions are officially the worst 3-1 team in the league. At first glance it would appear that we could take little from todays victory over an incredibly inept Bears team. And thats probably true. The Lions scoring over 30 points on the Bears vaunted defense isnt even impressive as the Monsters of the Midway were without either cornerback, pro bowl safety Mike Brown, and the poor driving Lance Briggs. The Bears didn't give them their best shot with a legitimate defense.
However, one thing in particular stood out and gave me a slight glimmer of hope for the remainder of what promises to be an incredibly disappointing season: the Lions took care of a team they should have beat. In todays game, the Lions were the better team. As any Lions fan knows: this has never guarenteed victory for these guys. Lately however...it has and I'm beginning to worry.
Certainly they can't keep this up. If for no other reason than they simply arent better than many more teams in the league. Luckily, we have the Vikings again (Im not sure Detroit is a better team against Chicago on the road with their full compliment of defensive players and a less rusty Brian Griese). Whatever...a 4-12 season is an improvement over last season.
Now the distressing part: the secondary. If it wasnt made perfectly clear last week, any medicore QB with 4 seconds in the pocket can pick the terrible defensive backfield apart. Even Brian Griese managed to do this. Pretty scary stuff. I can't see it getting better.
