Let me take a quick minute to predict that two Lions teams are going to win this weekend. The Nittany Lions, unfortunately, should roll over Michigan. The argument for the maize and blue goes something along the lines of Penn State running a traditional offense (which UM can stop) and the offensive firepower of the Wolverines should be able to compensate for the mediocrity of the D.
NONSENSE...Penn State has some of the best LBs in the country and are stout against the run. I'm not expecting Mike Hart to roll for 150+ like he has in the previous three games. He just won't do it. What will happen is a lot of 2nd and 8 yrds. and 3rd and 6yrds. where UM will have to rely on a true freshman to repeatedly make clutch throws. No thanks. Mallet is going to be exceptional, but I don't trust him until he actually goes out there and makes the plays when it counts. Its one thing to complete 7 passes against a putrid Notre Dame defense. Its another to have to complete 15 to 20 passes against the defense for the 10th ranked team in the country.
I see a lot of punting for UM which only gives the Penn State offense opportunities to hit on a big play against a defense that has the unfortunate reputation of giving them up. Penn State 24 - UM 13.
On a high note: I believe our NFL Lions win this game in Philly and essentially begin the Kevin Kolb era. Without any significant analysis: both teams' offenses are infintiely better than the opposing teams' defense. But with Bryant Westbrook out and Donavan McNabb looking pretty awful I think the Detroit D can get just enough stops to win.
Its actually interesting to think the the Detroit-Philly game could actually be considered a trap game for the Lions. My how the tides have turned in the NFL.
The only thing preventing the Lions from winning this game is Jon Kitna. I find it remarkable that he is also the only player on the team that is essential for them to win the game. If Kitna is consistent and doesn't make stupid mental mistakes (INTs in the endzone): basically performs against his nature the Lions win a barn-burner. Lions 32-Eagles28.
