Just when I think I'm out...

...the Lions have dragged me right back in. I'm on the Kitna train for the rest of the season I fear. Destined to "pound the rock" until I'm left upset and disapointed around week 11 when they are eliminated from the playoffs. Pattern and practice dictate this is exactly how this season will end...like MANY before, but once again I can't quite turn away. There is simply no reason to expect the Lions to be anything more than a 6-10 team. They've beaten two of the worst teams (other than themselves) in the league, and barely at that. I'm actually hating myself for signing up for the rest of the season. Like sucking face on a bar dance floor when you're drunk...it just feels right in the moment (even though you know its incredibly inappropriate/wrong).

This afternoon's game doesnt even justify my decision to stay with these losers. The Lions demonstrated their Lionness basically the entire game. They were ony trumped by the Vikings displaying their Vikingness to a greater degree. Led, in no small part, by the 4 interceptions from Tavarius Jackson who apparently thought that because he was in Ford Field he had to play like a Lions QB. Jackson should have received the MVP for the Lions for this one. Just awful. I'd be sick if I was a Viking fan right now. You should be 2-0.

Still, the Lions threw their regular interception in the endzone (squandering at least 3 points that would have won the game in hindsight) among a number of others. Even the only player in the last 10 seasons for the Lions with any sort of consistentcy, Jason Hanson, blew a game-winner in regulation. JC Pearson is an asshole for jinxing him by the way, and then the dickhead wouldn't say anything when Minnesota.

Anyway, I have no real good explanation for why I'm signed up for this season of misery. I know how its going to end (poorly) but DAMNIT! I can't help myself.

Here is all I can come up with for why I think they'll be worthwhile to watch:

1) Offensive fire-power. They have played two very good defenses (by last year's standards at least) and put up some serious numbers. It seems like Kitna can just sit back there and pick apart a defense. It is fun to watch. They aren't doing the typical Lions/UM five yard outs on a 3rd and seven (a staple of the Morninweig/Marriuci era). They are legitimately moving the ball with a degree of ease I don't believe we've ever seen.

2) The defense actually made some stops. But in the 4th quarter against the Raiders and in OT today. I don't expect this to last...believe me I don't. BUT: it looks like they have an inspired Shawn Rogers which makes everyone on that front four better. Dwayne White and "the highest paid defensive tackle in football who is the third best DT on his team" are high energy guy that will benefit greatly from Rogers giving two shits. How long that will last remains to be seen. I was a little concerned that Big Baby confided in JC Pearson that he doesnt watch/pay attention to game tape. Not sure what exactly that did for the questions regarding Rogers' work ethic (and overall giving a fuck), but I'm guessing it wasnt good.

Dinner is being served so I'm out....but damnit: COUNT ME IN!!!!
